Songs of Seeds

(in developement)

a film by Ruedi Gerber

Songs of Seeds is an intimate, lyrical portrait of the Indian rice farmers of Kuttanad, Kerala, and their traditional farming methods, which are officially recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS). But their culture is on the verge of disappearing. When Ruedi Gerber traveled to Kerala to produce the feature film Basmati Blues, he was fascinated by the farming communities’ way of life and their rice-growing culture, which is now threatened by the advent of genetically engineered seeds. In Songs of Seeds, he lets the men and women in the rice paddies of Kerala tell their own story.
